From the desk of Doug…

I know I promised you all that we would talk about the power of forgiveness and the impact it had on the life of Peter and Paul.  I have not forgotten but I wanted to do a bridge post.

I was speaking with a co-worker who wished me a Merry Christmas and encouraged me to remember that “Jesus is the reason for the season”.  No doubt, that is a very true statement.  If Jesus was never born, we would notIMG_4103 be celebrating Christmas.  What struck me was the fact that I fired back quickly “Guess what?  YOU are the reason for the season!”.  My co-worker asked me, what I meant by that.

I clarified that I am not saying that our focus should not be any less on Jesus at Christmas because after all, he is God’s greatest gift to mankind.  However, from God’s perspective, the ONLY reason he came to this earth was for YOU…ONLY!

In my book, I Was Framed!” Signed, God, I establish that God has need of nothing.  He is God and will always be God Almighty whether mankind exists or not.  The only reason he created mankind was because he wants mankind.

In my last post, I stated that Christ died for us even though we were his enemies.(Romans 5:8)  Wow!  We also read that God forgives for his own sake!  Why?  C’mon, let’s say this together: “God doesn’t want there to be anything interfering with his ability to have a loving relationship with us”. We can be confident in his love because although his forgiveness benefits us, it benefits him as well. We are VERY valuable and important to God.1267179_898317620179223_9044083065877538456_o

When Jesus was getting beaten, tortured and crucified, guess who was on his mind?  You! Hebrews 12:2 “…looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”  What was the joy?  You are God’s joy.

Let’s hear what the angels declare about this baby Jesus.

Matthew 1:20- 23 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.

Luke 2:8-11 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. ”

The angels pointed out that Jesus came to be a Savior and he is God with us, Emmanuel.  Jesus came to save. He came to save you and me even when we were his enemies.  Why did he do this?

Because his love is greater than our sin forever!  What does this mean for us? It means that we need to see ourselves from God’s perspective. If you have to think and speak of yourself God’s way, you must to say “I am VERY valuable to God!”  How do I know?  He gave us his best gift, his one and only begotten son, the son whom he loves dearly.

Think about that for the rest of your life.  RECEIVE his love, even if you are currently his enemy.  His love is greater than whatever you think is keeping you separated from him.

Have a blessed New Year.
