Great Detective Bible Topics
…from the desk of Doug
Here are free excerpts from the first book in The God On Trial Series, “I Was Framed!” Signed! God. I’m excited about the positive response in the short time it has been released.
Reviews: “”What a great read! It grabs your attention with thought provoking questions and does not let go! Even at the end you want it to continue. Unlike some books with lots of scripture references, it does not become boring, it just continues to draw you in.”
“I can’t wait to read the other books in this series. Some of the things I had been pondering were answered”
Introduction…”I do realize that my audience will consist of a range of people. There will be people who have never heard anything about Christianity. There will be those who have gone to church their entire lives.
This will intentionally be a simple read, however the concepts that I will share may be thought provoking. My understanding of God has changed through the years and I want to share this journey with you. This is a Bible study that the Lord did with me years ago. He has used this study to help me understand His heart for me and for humanity.
Let me say this, anyone can find what I have found. Many of these concepts will be easy to grasp. However, if you, like me, had scriptures presented with a particular conclusion for years, it may be challenging to change your mind. Let’s be honest, it is hard for us to admit when we have been wrong. Please don’t let a challenging point stop you from reading to the end.” …
from Chapter I
I will begin our investigation with looking at our present crime scene.
The Crime Scene: On Planet Earth there is death, destruction, poverty, crime and all sorts of heartache. Families are torn apart; children are starving. There are tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, and floods. There are scandals, liars, cheats and abusers all around. We don’t trust politicians, businessmen, the police force, and sadly the Church. What happened to this world!!??
Picture this crime scene. If you interview the witnesses and onlookers in order to find the prime suspect, most will shout:
“GOD DID IT!”
God did it? Really?! Here are some of the statements that I have heard from people.
- The tornado was an act of God.
- The tsunami was a judgment of God.
- The person who died of a disease was “called home by God to be with Him.”
- God is allowing crime and poverty to bring us back to Him.
- God brings suffering to teach us lessons and to bring Him glory.
As a detective we must examine the accused. The accused in this case is God.
from Chapter IV
I work for an insurance company. One types of auto insurance coverage is called “comprehensive” coverage. This insurance covers accidents that are caused by nature. Accidents caused by wind, storms and they use this term “acts of God.” In the insurance industry an “act of God” is a natural disaster like a hurricane or tornado.
If I were a detective and looked at the list above and I had to pick the culprit out of a line up based on their tactics, it would be clear to me that what we call an “act of God” is actually an “act of the devil.”
I hear many Christians and non-Christians say that God put a sickness on them for “some” reason. One reason given is that God wants to teach them something. That is a possibility. However, if I had to pick between Jesus and the devil, based on the facts we have listed, I would say the devil is the culprit. But let’s not jump to final conclusions yet. We still have lots of work to do…
(later in Chapter IV)…Based on this above scripture, we “wrestle” against these principalities and powers. I think it’s time for some biblical definitions. I will be using my Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Greek and Hebrew Words.
Despotism: To rule with absolute power and control. Tyranny.
Principalities: The Greek word is arche = beginning, government, rule – is used of supramundane beings who exercise rule called principalities.
Powers: The Greek word is exousia = “freedom of action, right to act; authority” Angelic beings are called “powers”
Rulers: The Greek word is kosmokrator = denotes “a ruler of this world” or a “world lord.” The world rulers of this darkness
Hosts: The Greek word is stratia = “an army” used specifically speaking of angels.
1 Peter 1:11-13 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. 12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospelto you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things whichangels desire to look into.
Ok. This is stunning. Even the angels are closely watching how the gospel works for man. The gospel literally means “good news.” Angels are interested in this good news and they are also interested in the glory that came from Christ’s sufferings. We are jumping way ahead but again it is similar to the fact the manifold wisdom of God would be made known to the “principalities and powers.” Angels are watching and paying attention. I wonder why? Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s move on.
- There is a hierarchy of governmental rule that exists in the heavenly realms
- They must be an evil government since we wrestle against them
- God wants to demonstrate His wisdom to them for some reason or purpose
- There are armies of wicked angels. The devil has a military which speaks of being strategic and violent.
CONCLUSION #7 The role of this invisible realm must be considered in this investigation.
The Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Greek and Hebrew Wordsgives an interesting and important explanation of Ephesians 6:12 The context “not against flesh and blood” shows that earthly potentates are not indicated, but spirit powers, who, under the permissive will of God, and in the consequence of human sin, exercise satanic and therefore antagonistic authority over the world in its present condition of spiritual darkness and alienation from God. Read this a few times. It is important.
I have to agree with this based on what we know. Why God permitted this antagonistic authority is still a major question.
What’s Next? (the Epilogue)
The next book in this series God: Accused or Excused? will cover:
- Why did God create humans?
- Why didn’t God make mankind in a way that it would be impossible for man to sin?
- Why is there death?
- Why did God allow the Devil/Satan to exist after so much destruction?
- Why did Jesus have to come to the earth and then die?
The main question many have with religion is “How can a loving God allow so much suffering and destruction?” We’ll answer that question and many, many more.
See you then, you great detective!
